Linear Circuit-Oriented Model of Photovoltaic Array Using Optimization Algorithm

Output voltage –current (I-V) characteristic of thephotovoltaic arrays is nonlinear. In equivalent circuit model,this nonlinear nature is applied by diodes. In this paper, a newmodelling method for the electrical equivalent circuit ofphotovoltaic cell is presented. Nonlinear characteristic of I-Voutput in this method is approximated by parallel branchesmade by linear circuit elements. The number of branches isvariable, so that increased number of branches will reduce theapproximation. An optimization algorithm is used to determinethe parameters of elements in the equivalent circuit. Thealgorithm enables the simulation software to not only optimizethe parameters in the circuit, but also apply the effects ofchanging temperature and radiation on the model. The abovemodelling has been implemented in MATLAB software, andnumerical simulation has also been done to evaluate theaccuracy and precision of performance, of which the results arepresented in detail.
